Pennyroyal
Parts Used: Aerial parts
Collection: The stems should be gathered just before flowering in July.
With its richly aromatic volatile oil, Pennyroyal will ease flatulence and abdominal colic due to wind. It will relax spasmodic pain and ease anxiety. However, its main use is as an emmenagogue to stimulate the menstrual process and to strengthen uterine contractions. As it has been used in large doses as an abortifacient, it should be avoided during pregnancy. The oil should be avoided as it can act far too strongly.
CAUTION: AVOID DURING PREGNANCY.
Infusion: pour a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoonfuls of the dried leaves and let infuse for 10-15 minutes. This should be drunk three times a day.
Pennywort
Common Name: Navelwort.
Parts Used: Fresh Leaves
I have found Pennywort to be a specific in earache, while coming across no references to this in the herbal literature. The fresh leaves are pressed to extract the juice, which can be easily done in a metal sieve. The juice, abundant in the succulent leaves, is introduced into the ear and kept in place by a plug of cotton ball. I have observed rapid and complete easing of the severe pain of earache in a very short time this way. This remedy may be safely used even with very young children. It is inadvisable if there is suspicion of damage to the eardrum.
Peppermint

Peppermint is one of the best carminative agents available. It has a relaxing effect on the visceral muscles, antiflatulent properties, and stimulates bile and digestive juice secretion, all of which help explain its value in relieving intestinal colic, flatulent dyspepsia, and other associated conditions. The volatile oil acts as a mild anesthetic to the stomach wall, which allays feelings of nausea and the desire to vomit. It helps relieve the vomiting of pregnancy and travel sickness. Peppermint plays a role in the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Peppermint is most valuable in the treatment of fevers and especially colds and influenza.
As an inhalent, it can be used as a temporary treatment for nasal catarrh. Where migraine headaches are associated with the digestion, this herb may be used. As a nervine it acts as a tonic, easing anxiety, tension, hysteria,, etc. In painful periods (dysmenorrhea), it relieves teh pain and eases associated tension. Externally it may be used to relieve itching and inflammations.
Infusion: pour cup of boiling water onto a heaped teaspoonful of the dried herb and leave to infused for 10 minutes. This may be drunk as often as desired.
