Stalk: More or less equal or tapering upward from a swollen base; surface granular from the base up to a flaring ring on the upper stalk, smooth above the ring; colored like the cap below the ring, whitish to pale brown above.

Occurrence: Solitary or more often in small groups, at times in caespitose clusters on decaying wood of broad-leaved trees, especially beech, birch, and maple; saprobic; late summer-fall; occasional.
