Superstitions- Brown Bread, You're Dead

Bread, known as the staff of life, is also often associated with death. Taking three loaves of bread from the oven at once, dropping a loaf while taking it out of the oven, or a loaf that split across the top while the dough was being shaped all foretold an imminent death. And a loaf with a hole in it signified a grave or coffin, indicating that someone close to the family would soon die.
