Of the Birthdays Jan 12,13,14

So, I haven't been posting the last two days. (Sorry about that) I was offered the chance to take supervising training at work. So my breaks are a little shorter than usual and I work quite a distance away. I haven't been home with the books. :( Therefore, I'll at least get this section caught up now & maybe do a little more later.

Herb


Calamus



Common Name: Sweet Flag
Parts Used: Dried rhizome
Collection: The rhizome should be harvested between September and October. Free the rhizome from the leaves and root and clean it thoroughly . Halve it along its length and dry it in the shade. 

Calamus is an excellent tonic for the whole gastrointestinal tract. It may be used in dyspepsia of all kinds, gastritis and gastric ulcers. It will stimulate a flagging appetite and help ease exhaustion and weakness when there is a digestive involvement. 

Infusion: pour a cup of boiling water onto 2 teaspoonfuls of the dried herb and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes. Drink a cup half and hour before meals. 


Californian Poppy



Parts Used: Dried aerial parts.
Collection: The aerial parts are collected at the time of flowering, which is between June and September. They should be dried in the shade

Californian Poppy has the reputation of being a nonaddictive alternative to the Opium Poppy, though it is less powerful. It has been used as a sedative and hypnotic for children, where there is over excitability and sleeplessness. It can be used wherever an antispasmodic remedy is required. The Native Americans used it for colic pains, and it may be useful in the treatment of gallbladder colic. 

Infusion: pour a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoonfuls of the dried herb and leave to infuse for 10 minutes. A cup should be drunk at night to promote restful sleep.

Calumba



Parts Used: Root
Collection: This root is collected from a climbing plant indigenous to the forests of Mozambique and Madagascar

Calumba is an excellent digestive remedy that tones the whole tract, stimulating it gently but having no astringent properties. It may be used whenever debility occurs that is connected with some digestive involvement. 

Decoction: put 1-2 teaspoonfuls of the root in a cup of cold water and bring to boil. Let infuse for 10 minutes and drink a cup half an hour before meals. 





Runes


Tir



This is the great rune of victory and symbolizes kings and leaders of men. Tir is the rune of "might for right" and as such is valuable in a runescript when you have been unfairly denied something or have been falsely accused. It is indicative of the fighting spirit, of trial by combat and fearlessness. It is the primary masculine rune. 

USES:

  4. In love matters, Tir is used to symbolize the ardent male. 

Beorc



Beorc is the rune of the Great Mother and as such is the primary rune of fertility. It also conceals and protects and rules over all protective enclosures, such as houses or temple areas. It is very good to use in a runescript for the peace, projection and harmony of a household. In a runescript, it represents a very feminine and nurturing female type.

  5. To represent a certain type of female in the runescript

Ehwaz



This is a rune of abrupt changes and is good for initiating bold new ventures. use Ehwaz after the "subject" runes in your runescript to facilitate change.

  2. Ensures safe travel.
