Oyster...Like I Can Eat It?- Mushrooms

Common Name: Late Fall Oyster






Width of cap: 1-4 inches
Cap: Convex, semicircular or fan shaped to kidney shaped in outline, margin incurved; color variable, olive-yellow becoming olive-brown to greenish brown, sometimes with violaceous tints; surface smooth, glabrous to slightly velvety, viscid when young or when moist; flesh firm, thick white, odor not distinctive, taste mild to bitter
Gills: Broadly attached to decurrent, close; whitish to yellowish, or orangish yellow.
Stalk: Short, thick, lateral, or sometimes absent; yellowish; downy or scaly.
Spore Print: Pale yellow
Occurrence: Solitary or more often in overlapping clusters on standing deadwood or fallen trunks, stumps and branches of broad-leaved and conifer trees; saprobic; fall-early winter; common
Edibility: EDIBLE
